Worth Nothing!

"If we add to our Churches by becoming worldly, by taking in persons who have never been born again; if we add to our Churches by accommodating the life of the Christian to the life of the worldling, our increase is worth nothing at all; it is a loss rather than a gain! If we add to our Churches by excitement, by making appeals to the passions rather than by explaining the truth of God to the understanding. If we add to our Churches otherwise than by the power of the Spirit of God making men new creatures in Christ Jesus, the increase is of no worth whatever!" —C. H. Spurgeon (1834-1892)

Excerpt taken from a sermon titled "Harvest Joy" preached July 6th, 1890 by C. H. Spurgeon

In going as far as to say it is a loss, not a gain, Spurgeon cuts off those who would say, "I know our version of church is not optimal, but isn't it better than nothing for the first-time church goers we attracts?"

Great quote!

Then I would just refer them to this A. W. Pink quote Direct Variance

wow...where are the Spurgeons today? Amazing how this message convicts and judges as sharply of so many churches today as it did in CH's days. And the followup you posted from Pink was just as sharp and true John. I just wish I did not feel so helpless to impact or influence any meaningful change. If it breaks my heart, God's Heart must truly be grieved.

Come quickly Lord....

Dear Brother, we are not helpless we have The Word of God and the Spirit of God and The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation. We must demand that the men in our pulpits preach nothing less than Jesus Christ and Him crucified and trust in Him to make the change in spite of what men may think or do. Yes, my heart breaks too but remember our God is able!!!
